It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman! You remember these comic book heroes don’t you? For decades comic book characters such as Superman, Spiderman, Batman, and Wonder Woman have captured the imaginations of American children and adults alike. â€Å"Superheroes† they have been coined. But these figures only exist in our imaginations. Batman is not really there to save us from villains such as the Joker and the Riddler is he? Because these heroes are fictional, we are left without real life heroes, or are we? There must be heroes or there would never b e a peaceful night’s rest, we would be afraid to go outside for fear of being hurt, and our life would be lived in a constant paranoia that something or someone is going to kill us. But,†¦show more content†¦When you remember these things you notice all the love behind them. They protected you from the horrors in the world as a child, didn’t want to take away the innocence by let ting you know that not everyone gets bedtime stories, or that some children don’t have a home or parents. They do so much for you that when you stop and take a look, you can see that they were your heroes from the very beginning. Ever been driving down the road, possibly with a child in the backseat, and all of a sudden the wail of a siren blast through the air and you pull off the road? Within seconds you see flashing lights and a police car or fire truck speeds past you and, without thinking about it, you just witnessed heroes in action. That child in the backseat will probably never forget the event. The first time many teachers or parents hear a child say, â€Å"I want to be a policeman/firefighter when I grow up,† it’s because this child has seen policemen and firefighters in action. In a child’s eyes, policemen catch the bad guys and make the street safe and firefighters put out monstrous fires with their cool hoses and save people from burning buildings.
